What happens when you pour water on an illuminated light bulb?
It explodes.
This evening: case in point.
One of my latest creations is what we're referring to as "Happy Juice." Cuz oh .... it's definitely happy juice. Here are the magic ingredients:
- fresh peaches, sliced
- vodka (a lot)
- peach schnapps (a little)
- peach flavored seltzer water (a WHOLE lot)
- splash of fruit punch
And we even headed down a day early!
I got an IM from Jenna during the day on Friday encouraging me and Chris to come down that night after work. "The party's already started," she said. Well. That was enough reason for me. :)
We had steak (and plenty of happy juice) on Friday night. We played corn hole. We watched Phelps win his 7th medal. Then all us kids (sans Jenna, who wimped out!) crashed in a camper parked in the yard.
Saturday, we got up and made blueberry pancakes for breakfast before taking the Rolls Royce into town to get more supplies. The crab crackin' started up just after noon. Chris gave us an excellent tutorial. And I must say, I'm somewhat a natural at crackin' crabs. Or I like to think so, at least. It was very dirty, but very fun! They weren't kidding -- Old Bay goes everywhere! It gets caked on your hands, under your fingernails and on your clothes. It was faaaaabulous.
We ate -- crabs, hot dogs, brownies, and everything else under the sun -- alllll day long. We swam in the pool. And danced. And some folks played volleyball. (I watched and cheered!) We played cards. And monopoly. We watched Phelps win his 8th medal. And then called it a night ... some of us earlier than others.
Sunday was a day for lounging. More pancakes for breakfast, plus some yummy muffins. They fired up the grill early ... time for more hot dogs and crabs. Spent a few hours lounging and in the pool before packing up and heading back to DC.
After almost falling asleep in the car -- yeah, i was BEAT -- I finally made it back to my apartment. Ordered a pizza. Passed out around 5-something. Whew.
Original tweet: "so very hungry. thank goodness i have pizza waiting on me at home. p.s. got lucky with a chatty cabby." The cabby comment was supposed to be a sarcastic (and concise ... because Twitter has that darn 140 character limit) remark about an annoying cab driver that was talking my ear off. Er ... didn't quite come out that way. The best part is that I totally didn't realize it until Paull pinged me ...
Paull: you got lucky with a cab driver? holy cow your tweets are awesomely open!
This weekend brings the famed Kozel crab fest! (Or is it crab feast? I'm not sure.) Whatever. We'll eat a lot of crab, drink a lot of ... lemonade. ;) We'll have a ball.
I am sure that there will be plenty of pictures to come from the weekend, so be on the lookout for those. Frankly, this weekend should be a good learning opportunity for me. I admit, I don't really know how to eat crabs. So I'm sure I'll get schooled in the art of ... er ... crab eating. Or whatever you call it. (Oh, Chris just pinged me -- it's "cracking crabs.")
I hear the feast starts up around lunchtime. Everyone eats and drinks alllll day. I've been told to wear very comfortable/casual clothing that I don't mind if it gets ruined. ("Check.") And to not have my phone on me, should I find myself suddenly propelled into the pool. ("Eek.") And we've all been invited to stay over, so get ready to bust out the sleeper sofas and sleeping bags.
I think I'm prepared for this. Maybe. Hopefully. :)
I had the weirdest dream early this morning just before I woke up. I dreamed that I'd gotten up and was out and about running errands one morning when it dawned on me that I should hurry up and wrap things up, cause I had to be at work in a little bit (since it was Friday in my dream). THEN it dawned on me, "Oh, wait. It's not Friday, it's Saturday!" Sweet. I could take my time running errands. (Which, by the way, happened to be at the old Walmart in Demopolis. Weird.)
Then I woke up. And still had that lingering feeling of relief, since -- in my dream -- I'd just determined that it was Saturday. I stretched and laid there, thankful I had hours of lounge time ahead of me because, after all, it was Saturday. But oh ... wait ... no ... it's definitely Friday. And that Sister Hazel song playing next to my bed is my alarm telling me it's time to get up and go to work. Damn. Not cool, not cool.
I finally sat myself down and spent a good three hours working on getting caught up with pictures and such. Whew! Added A LOT to Flickr and a few to Facebook. Had ones from vacation, our trip to New Jersey, Jenna's party, Screen on the Green ... pshaw ... I was way behind. A few favorites from vacation:
I love, love, LOVE this pic of Ben.
Family time at the beach!
I do love my Dan. :)
I'll (hopefully) be able to post a couple write-ups about Screen on the Green, etc. soon ... but for now ... to bed, fred! In the meantime, you can view all the latest pics here.
