Just another amusing IM conversation.
me: goodness!
Waiting on a file to convert. So I had a few random minutes. Grabbed the HUGE dictionary of quotations I have at my desk. And started ... just reading it.
I found a couple in the "campaign slogans" section that are just hilarious!
"In Your Heart You Know He's Right."
- Republican presidential campaign for Barry M. Goldwater, 1964
"In Your Guts You Know He's Nuts"
- Democratic presidential campaign against Republican candidate Barry M. Goldwater, 1964
Last weekend, I decided to splurge. I bought a new vacuum.
Considering that I'd lived without a vacuum since I moved to DC a year ago (somehow, the vacuum I had in Auburn didn't make the move), this was quite a big step for me. I'm a fairly clean person, and I'd opted for less expensive solutions to deal with my floor-cleaning needs (those Scotch floor roller things work!) because I couldn't afford to lay down a chunk of change on something like a vacuum. I mean REALLY. I had more important things to worry about paying for. Investing in the tidiness of my floor was at the BOTTOM of my list.
But at any rate. I finally decided to take the plunge and bought a reasonably priced, medium-quality vacuum.
I just got around to cracking open the box and piecing the thing together tonight. Then I took it for a little spin around my my apartment.
Oh, GLORIOUS clean floor!!!! If carpet could sparkle ... man ...
Heh. Just got an email from a friend:
"I just linked to your personal blog with the word 'brilliant' and the first two posts are a video of how you can't use a camera and pictures of the results of your recent lobotomy... gold."
Hahahaha ...
So to those of you expecting "brilliance," welcome! And good luck finding it here! ;-)
In other news, I baked some very intricate cookies tonight. (See the pic to the left. Tah-dah!) I will spare you all the meticulous details, but it was fun. And quite frankly, relaxing. (sigh) Culinary therapy ...
And in other other news ... I may be going here in a few weeks. (A 30-course meal?! Ultra cool.)
On our way out last night, we walked by Ashley's car, which had not been moved in QUITE a while. Cobwebs had literally formed on her tires. Pretty funny.
Even funnier when I went to take a picture with my snazzy new camera and it started recording video, rather than just snapping a picture. I'm still working on figuring this thing out ...
Well, we got a pleasant surprise at work today -- brand new digital cameras!! (Woo!!!!) So I thought I'd take it on a test drive and snap some quick shots. Take a look at beautiful, beautiful me ...
Well. I'M ON VACATION!!!! So just a quick post to share this video that my sister just showed me on YouTube. Tee-hee ... sorry, Jesse. :-)
And I do have some pictures from while we were at the beach. I swear I'll post those at some point soon. Believe it or not, I did not take a computer with me. (Again, I'M ON VACATION!!!) And the only access I have to a computer is while I'm at my sister's house. And there's a baby around! So seriously ... who would choose a computer over playing with baby Ben?!
I mean, just look at him ... (I just can't resist) ...
I'm beat.
Tomorrow is my last day of work before I leave for vacation, and goodness it's been a mad dash to get ready for this! Been pulling a lot of long hours lately because 1) I'm trying to get things in order before I leave, and 2) we have a ton going on right now and a pet project of mine launching very soon (all the more reason to make sure things can run smoothly while I'm away).
But I'm feeling good. I just updated my list of "things that have to be done before I leave," and it looks like I'm on track to get all this done. Running a little bit of a tight schedule. Tomorrow will be another very full day knocking out all the final items on my list. And I HAVE to leave work at 5:00 for a hair appointment. I could come back to the office to wrap up any final things after that if I needed to ... but I really hope I don't have to ... because I haven't packed yet! And my flight leaves early on Friday morning -- so no time to pack that a.m.
Shmay. It'll all be good. And in no time at all ... I'll be out enjoying the water on our sailboat (and stuffing my tummy with some YUMMY Grits a YaYa -- one of my favorite dishes in the world!!)
I have this habit that I picked up when I was in college. About once a week I'll go around my apartment and tidy up, doing full-on "cleaning" when and where necessary. And I always pull several extra candles out of the cupboard, place them on various surfaces throughout my ENTIRE apartment, and light 'em up. I let them burn while I clean, and by the end of my bout of cleaning my place is sweetly scented and I blow them out, put them away, and go on my way with the rest of my day.
I had actually forgotten about the candle part of my cleaning routine over the past couple of weeks (not sure why). But this weekend, as I started my rounds of cleaning, the thought struck me to pull out the scented candles. Whoa! What a difference that makes! What is it about candles that makes the act of moving around the apartment and putting things away so much more enjoyable??
